  • 1 Pinch of salt to taste
  • 1/3 C. Water
  • 2/3 C. Buttermilk
  • 2 Large eggs

  • Place approximately 1 Tbsp of the oil or bacon grease into skillet to cover the bottom, and put on medium heat on the stove, and let sit until hot.
  • Ladle about 1/4 cup of the mixture at a time into the skillet, cook completely on one side, flip and repeat until both sides are browned and the hoe cakes are cooked through.
  • Repeat by adding an additional 1 Tbsp of oil or bacon grease with additional batches until the remaining batter has been used.

Notes

  • If you do not like the spiciness of this recipe, you cam omit the pepper flakes and they will still taste delicious!
  • You could also use fresh cayenne peppers, but be sure to remove the seeds and white membrane from inside to reduce the overall spiciness.
